June 2026: Embody Your Honour – Embody Your Power
At one of the “high points” in my legal career, I remember working on a major case for an overseas billionaire client to essentially deal with the tax authorities on his behalf, and to minimise his tax payments. While at times the work felt exciting, exhilarating and powerful – something in my body couldn’t cooperate. I felt major dissonance. Because my body was suffering stress, overwork, tiredness and it wasn’t even in service to a noble cause like a human rights case or defending a natural landscape, issues that were more aligned with my values. June 2026: Platform 9¾ – people as doorways to magic
I was watching the first Harry Potter movie recently with my son. In the movie, Platform 9¾ is the threshold point beyond the muggle world and into the fantastical world of magic beyond – where we suddenly into this dimension of such deep richness and magic complete with breathing dragons, flying broomsticks, owl familiars, roaring fires, invisible cloaks. Why is Harry Potter so epically popular? We LOVE this…we YEARN for this. Even if we can’t explain it, even if we laugh about how nonsensical it is, the FEELING in our bodies is real. Something in us – that had been skimming the surface – is allowed to soften and descend, is allowed to marinate in a rich dark magic palpably delicious to our senses. Read more on Substack here.
June 2026: What is a Lawyer without the Legal System
Now I realise that, during the course of our legal studies and training, we were essentially being taught to be masters of “the system”. Our whole initiation was to guard and gate-keep the boundaries of the domain, and to guide people on (mostly) staying within those boundaries and limits. Rather than being trained and initiated as master/mistresses and experts of the real world energetic and power dynamics that we are all dealing with every day and that are, in fact, at the core of our legal systems – and the reason systems of law evolved in the first place. That is, to regulate and manage how we all live well and in harmony together, and with our environment. Read more on Substack here.
